ROOTED TO THE GROUND
Falmouth Congregational Church , 267 Falmouth Rd, Falmouth, ME
Friday, May 15 at 7:30 pm , Saturday, May 16 at 3:00 pm
Women in Harmony will present a spring concert entitled “Rooted to the Ground” on May 15 and 16 in Falmouth. The title is a phrase from the song Take this Gift by Tracy Wong, which celebrates the love of singing as a gift joyfully offered to the world. We are earthly creatures, it suggests, but we have lofty inclinations and an expansive reach. Singing together unites these two aspects of our being.
Our concert program includes other songs that explore this protean quality of our human nature, and how it relates to the divine. Jennifer Lucy Cook’s They Are Mother is a thrilling take on a non-binary, fluid conception of the divine. Diane White-Clayton gives us Love, the Greatest Gift, a wildly energetic paraphrasing of the well-known biblical verses from First Corinthians, Chapter 13 about the importance of love.
Janis Ian’s latter-day composition I’m Still Standing Here embraces the signs of aging as a language of life lived. We will also sing Gwyneth Walker’s Let the Life I’ve Lived Speak for Me, whichaddresses what is truly valuable at the end of life.
Among the many other pieces that fill our program, Paper Crane by J. Reese Norris is a much needed song dedicated to peace in our fraught times.
We very much look forward to welcoming you in May.
